When I was attempting to change a piece my thumb met the blade and off to the hospital I went. I am terrified to use mine now and won't be able to prep food for at least 10 days. As someone who eats high raw I am used to handling knives and sharp blades on blenders and processors so I handled the mandolin carefully. I want to suggest that the company offer a blade shield of some sort so that others don't run into this same problem.
However, the ending bits of veggies don't get sliced or diced. You can slice and dice veggies quickly. Still a good product.
The product is flimsy, a pain to change blades (& they pop out anyway), and lost sharpness after 2 or 3 uses. This thing is landfill fodder. I just chimed in to add a one-star rating. Everything now gets stuck under the blade halfway thru a slice.
It really works well. Cheap too. I got this because I wanted to make a ton of sweet potato fries. i'm pretty impressed by it.
Anyone who recommends this unit has no experience with a moderately sharp kitchen knife. This is false advertising at its worst. What a waste of time. I tried slicing carrots into julienne slices like it shows on the packaging which doesn't work AT ALL. These are the problems I ran into doing so:* The julienne slicer falls out of place after each push and has to be re-adjusted* The plastic is so flimsy that you have to hold the whole thing together on front and back ends while you are slicing anything* The julienne blades don't cut the carrot all the way through unless you are putting zero pressure on the pusher in which case you'll end up chopping up your fingers when it skips* The pusher can't get close enough to slice more than 2/3 of the carrot width-wise* The carrot gets funky holes on the last part from the pusherI suppose this unit could be alright as a basic slicer, but in that case I'd just use my food processor instead.I knew this thing would be cheap and something just to sort of get by until I bought a more expensive unit, but I ended up with something USELESS.
